Selle Français

The Selle Français is a breed of sport horse from France. It is renowned primarily for its success in show jumping, but many have also been successful in dressage and eventing. An athletic horse with good gaits, it is usually bay or chestnut in color. Wikipedia

Taslelook is a Selle Francais bay horse belonging to the beautiful Marie. I had the opportunity to photograph her with him recently at the magnificent North Farm Stud near Wantage.

Tass as he is usually called, is a handsome, sparky character. His face and muscles are photogenic, he is flexible despite seeming a big horse, but he likes to bite and is fairly indiscriminate in his appetite. The gate, the vegetation, hay nets, bales of course but also the wooden rail around the pasture, and apparently he finds his owner specially tempting. I was slow to appreciate that he was biting her during the shoot, because she didn’t complain, and managed to continue to look gorgeous despite regular nips and attacks.

Tass is very good looking chap, and set in the environment of Wiltshire countryside looks remarkably handsome. I would have loved to have more time with him, but the light was beginning to fade and his patience was worn thin.

He also had to compete with the beautiful mare ‘Lady’ who was a dream of a model, and took most of the afternoon, because of her willingness and good behaviour.

More about Lady another time…..
