Today I’m thinking not about Bournemouth beach but about herds of horses!
There’s something really magic about the sight and sound of a herd of horses galloping free and unfettered.
I have a number of images of horse herds from a variety of trips over the past 5 years, and every time I look at them they give me joy as I imagine the sound of their hooves, the heavy breathing and occasionally the aggro taking place between them as they compete for position.
This image was created in the South of France, in the early autumn, where the mares raise the dust in their pasture. The mares are a mixture of Camargues (white) and Andalusians (non-white). The early evening light is glancing from the side and behind. The image is available framed as the first of a Limited edition of only 15, with certificate number 218335 and, in the frame it measures 63cm x 44cm.
This is another image of the mixed herd in the South of France, this time coming straight at me. I can almost feel the impact of their feet as they thunder along. The image is available, framed, as the first of a Limited edition of only 15 certificate number 218339. It measures 68cm x 44cm in the frame.
The same herd galloping full tilt towards me raising dust in the pasture. In black and white there is a ghostly effect derived from the dusty environment. The image is available framed as the first of a Limited Edition of only 15, certificate number 218341. In the frame it measures 68cm x 44cm.
This image is a classical view of the horses of the Camargue galloping through the water of the lagoon, hooves splashing and thumping into the mud. It is available framed as the first of a Limited Edition of only 15, certificate number 218807. In the frame it measures 80.5cm x 54cm
I think it works particularly well in Black and white, and have chosen not to offer it in colour.
It is unusual to see the Camargue horses setting off to gallop at their own volition, which is what took place here. The lead horse took a fancy for the new direction and all the others followed him. Looking more closely at their feet you can see the wonderful splashes and reflections in the water. It is available framed as the first in a Limited Edition of only 15 prints, certificate number 218340. In the frame it measures 68cm x 44cm. An unframed version is also available number 2/15 certificate number 257252 and measures 65cm x 42cm
In contrast to the normal approach where I try to achieve sharpness, in this image I have combined a longer exposure with Intentional Camera movement to create the blurred effect. It is available framed as the first of a Limited Edition of only 15, certificate number 218337 and measures 62cm x 43cm. It is also available as a modern elegant acrylic with no frame measuring 30cm x 40cm.
This herd of young Friesian stallions came galloping straight towards me, most of them looking with interest at a group of young fillies. In the centre of the group there is a little aggro going on in spite of their fast progress. This is not a Limited Edition, but can be printed bespoke at your request at a variety of sizes, not just the standard sizes shown on the website.
It hangs attractively against a fashionable pale grey wall. The dimensions make for an impactful statement piece. It would work well as an acrylic also, and this can be created in acrylic on request.
So my herds are not on the beach and feature equine participants, rather than people celebrating summer weather and frustrated with lockdown!
If you feel any of these might be attractive additions to your walls, have a good look at the website and start shopping and don’t forget to apply your discount code if you have one.
